Ratings, reviews and recommendations help people know what others say to a certain local place, an online service or a product. It lets them know its negative and positive reviews for them to see if it’s trustworthy or not. And for that Google provides Google Places to help users find useful perspectives about local businesses and services so they can pick the one that’s right for them.

Though expected, not all reviews, ratings, and recommendations come out with positive outcomes. Some may need to be deleted by Google due to having inappropriate content, including a link to unlawful content or information that may violate the content policy or review that shows plagiarism. They also remove reviews that are only intended for advertising or post the same or similar reviews across multiple local businesses. If reviews are just used to boost or lower ratings of a business, Google may also remove it. Good thing is Google has systems in place that may remove individual reviews that violate their posting guidelines.

So if you want to share your experiences and opinions about local businesses and help people get the information they need to make smart decisions before making a deal with them, then you should be aware of Google Places’ guidelines in writing great reviews. To start with, reviews should be honest and fair. One should not be tempted to accept gratifications just by writing positive feed backs on something which does not entirely tell the truth anymore.

The review must also be informative and insightful. It should be specific and relevant to the local business you are reviewing. As much as possible, you should write about real experiences so as to keep it authentic. Though things might not be giving you what you want and writing negative feedback on something is really needed, then you can do that as long as it is a constructive criticism that would encourage the company to change for the better. This is more proper than ruining their reputation. Lastly, you must write with style so as to keep people interested in reading your review and so they will be also able to learn from your review.

As a viewer, one can help remove a review by flagging the review as inappropriate and then Google will attend to this problem and will be the one to determine whether to delete this review or not. But the decision has to be weighed between the owner and the consumer. Things must be evaluated first before final actions are done.
